In Voice mode, Ava joins your call as a voice-only participant. She listens, transcribes, provides live coaching on the Whisper tab, and can engage with the room by speaking — without an on-screen avatar.
When to use it
Choose Voice when you want Ava to actively help in the conversation — answering a buyer's question or jumping in with context — but you don't need a visible avatar on the call.
How to add Ava in Voice mode
Follow the steps in Add Ava to Your Calls: Meeting Modes, and select voice as the mode when you join or invite Ava.
Talking with Ava
Wake words
To get Ava's attention, address her with a wake word such as "Hey Ava…", "Hi Ava…", "Hello Ava…", or "Ok Ava…". Once you're in an active exchange with her, she'll continue to respond when she recognizes a contextual follow-up to what she was saying.
Active vs. Listen-only
When Ava is on a call in Voice mode, she is Active by default. While active, she only responds when she believes she's being spoken to — so using a wake word helps her recognize that you're addressing her.
If you need to stop Ava from speaking, click the Active icon to toggle it off. This puts her in listen-only mode: she keeps transcribing and coaching but won't speak until you make her active again.
What you also get
Voice mode includes everything in Transcript-only mode:
Live coaching (Whisper tab) — suggested Responses and Objection handling.
Choose who Ava listens to — per-participant Listening toggle.
Live transcript and transcript / recording history.
For details on these shared features, see Add Ava to Your Calls: Meeting Modes.
Sharing sensitive information
When Ava speaks on a call with prospects or customers, she avoids sharing sensitive internal information such as opportunity values or internal stakeholder details. In the web app, where she knows prospects aren't present, she can provide fuller internal detail.
Switching modes
Ava's mode is set when she joins and can't be changed in place. To move between Voice, Avatar, and Transcript-only, have Ava leave the call and re-add her in the mode you want.
